Mammillaria xochipilli - type locality San Jose del Oro, Hidalgo, Mexico, Repp. 1709.
Body: Simple, elongate, 40-200mm high x 40-90mm wide. Tubercles: Conic, 8-10mm long and wide, dark green, with watery sap. Axils: With white wool. Spines: 4-6, 3-20mm long, acicular, lower longest, straight, smooth, brownish to black. Flowers: Bell shaped, 18- 20mm long x 12-15mm wide, pinkish carmine. Fruit:
Clavate, 15-20mm long x 3-5mm wide, green/white/red shades. Seeds: Pale brown.
Reppenhagen compares this species with the type of M. bucareliensis, this species being more columnar in habit, the tubercles are conic not pyramidal, and there are no true radial spines.
