white tipped brown. Flowers 15-16 mm. long, segments with muddy cerise midstripe, stigmas (short) pale yellowish green.
Fruit globose, 7-8 mm. long, bright red; seeds 1-2 m m . long, black, finely pitted.
MEXICO: Oaxaca, Alta Mixteca, near Buenavista de Concepcion, alt. approx. 1800 m, under oak trees in blacky humusy
soil with Agave gilbeyi and Yucca sp. 1971, F. Otero in AbG 72-003 (POM, holo., MEXU, clonotype).
A most interesting discovery belonging to Series Stylothelae whose distribution has not hitherto been known to extend
south of the volcanic belt in Mexico (although M. prolifera is said to occur in Colombia). The species is as distinctive as any member
of the Series and worthily bears the name of its collector, the correspondent and friend of many enthusiasts in Europe, Felipe Otero.
